Molson Canadian 67 Session IPA - MolsonCoors (Canada)

Molson Canadian 67 Session IPA - MolsonCoors (Canada) 3.0%

I'm dubious that this is going to be good, not because it's only 3% ABV but because it's made by MolsonCoors and they have a number of products in their portfolio that are less than desirable.

It pours nicely though! A proper head of white foam with a darker shade of amber coloured body in a glass. And... how about that? The aroma is strongly hoppy! Tropical fruit, resin and hints of something vegetal.

The flavour is also hop forward with the same mix of hop tones as in the aroma coming through clearly but without much intensity. The body is very thin (unsurprisingly, given it is a low calorie and very low alcohol beer) and it's a bit over carbonated as a result. The aftertaste is very short lived but over all this is an interesting beer. If very low alcohol and hops is something that you were looking for in a beer than I have to recommend giving this Session IPA a try. Really my only complaint is that it is over carbonated to my taste but I imagine that might appeal to some.

Nickel Brook Gluten Free - Better Bitters Brewing (Canada - Ontario - Burlington)

Nickel Brook Gluten Free - Better Bitters Brewing (Canada - Ontario - Burlington) 5.8%

An interestingly hoppy aroma before a cheesy aroma that some gluten-free beers have barges in; although the two do find some balance in the end. I'm not sure if that particular aroma is due to the sorghum or not, but the hops still carries through lightly. Pale gold in a glass and with a quick-fading, soda-pop-like head: after all, the proteins that allow beer's unique among beverages frothy head to form are necessarily absent from a gluten-free beer.

The taste is sweet and tart, maybe even a touch metallic at first. It is really quite bitter and the hops come through, at times more than others, with nice floral and cedar hop notes. Other than the bitterness, the overall flavour is milder on the whole than most gluten-free beers I have reviewed. This combination of factors, particularly the skillful use of hops, makes Nickel Brook Gluten Free perhaps the most similar to conventional beers out of the gluten-free beers I have tried. That being said, its flavour certainly still takes some getting used to and there are some other gluten free beers which manage to taste very good, in my opinion, even if they don't taste much like conventional beers. Overall, a good gluten-free alternative and, if you are into gluten-free, a must-try.

Glutenberg Blonde - Brasseurs Sans Gluten (Canada - Quebec - Montreal)

Glutenberg Blonde - Brasseurs Sans Gluten (Canada - Quebec - Montreal) 4.5%

Pale gold in a glass with a head that fades quickly but is better than most gluten-free beers I have tried. A strong grapefruit aroma which is very pleasant actually with just a touch of something malt-like. That grapefruit aspects continues into the palate and is still very nice. The taste is also just a little bit skunky and malty with a lingering shadow of a flavour that reminds me of sushi rice prepared with a dash of rice wine vineagar.

Definitely my favourite gluten-free beer I've had to this point: I really like the grapefruit flavour. Glutenberg Blonde has a stylish label complete with nutrional factsheet but sports a plain silver bottlecap (not pictured).

La Messagère - Les Bières de la Nouvelle-France (Canada - Quebec - St Alexis des Monts)

La Messagère - Les Bières de la Nouvelle-France (Canada - Quebec - St Alexis des Monts) 4.7%

Very, very pale gold in a glass. Malty aroma ctually, bread and quite a bit of yeast. Quite taste (at times very sour), flowery but some malt-like taste and overall really not that bad. One of the best gluten-free beers I've even had, by far.

Three Summertime Lime Beers

Bud Light Lime Mojito 4.0%

Gold in a glass. Strong lime flavour, very pronounced: probably the strongest lime flavour I've had in a lime flavoured beer and it's also very minty. It is also very sweet but in a way that brings to mind fruit rather than sugar. Of the flavoured beers I have tried this has to be one of the more interesting: they were trying to make a beer that tastes like a mojito and, using natural ingredients, they did an excellent job. To be clear this is a beer that isn't just flavoured with lime and mint, Bud Light Lime Mojito is flavoured to the point that it tastes just like the lime and mint in a mojito. If you light lime beers you must try this one at least once and, obviously, if you hate flavoured beers steer clear. When paired with food it tastes less like a mojito and more like a mojito flavoured beer, as in some of mint taste seems to be replaced by regular old Bud Light barely malty (not barley) flavour.

Canadian 67 Sublime - Molson (Canada) 3.0%

A neat quirk of Molson Sublime 67 is a "Nutrition Facts" sheet stuck on its backside complete with a large number of zeroes and "not a significant source of"'s. The label is interesting because it is rare among beers though hardly surprising for a beer whose marketing is based on it having only 67 calories.

Very, very pale gold in a glass with an aroma of lime and lemon. Tastes ever so slightly malty (EVER so slightly) and sweet with the expected and pleasant touches of lime and lemon. It isn't overly sweet by any means but I thought the sweetness was a little strange for a beer with 0 grams of sugar unless they used artificial sweeteners however that seems unlikely because there is no mention of them on the label and that would pose an allergy risk.

At 3.0% this is a refreshing summer beer that is great for situations that call for low-alcohol content such as meeting the in-laws for the first time, or for the company picnic as well as for those looking for a low calorie alternative.

Tuborg Lime Cut (Denmark) 4.5%

It is hard to actually tell this is a beer. While other lime flavoured beers are just that, beers flavoured with some lime, Tuborg Lime Cut tastes only like lime. Judging by the name, Tuborg Lime Cut, I expected something more subtly flavoured as though it only had a wedge (or cut) of lime added.
